Birthday Party at the Angel MuseumOn August 9, 2011, a beautiful summer day, Jeanette Klotz of Maplepark, Il celebrated her 84th birthday with her four daughters and daughter in law. The women traveled to the Angel Museum for a fun celebration bringing a delicious picnic lunch in the serene Angel Museum garden.

The atmosphere of the sunken garden, under umbrella shade with flowering plants as centerpiece, presented a perfect oasis for this family celebration. Before lunch they had a tour of the Berg and Oprah collection. Picnic Angel MuseumLast year one of the sisters had come to the museum with a very small group of spa therapists on a Monday when the museum was closed. Even Joyce greeted this small group of women and one male.

The group enjoyed the experience so much that several days after returning home they still felt the serenity they had experienced while visiting the museum. One of the group, Jo Cessna decided the museum would be the perfect destination for her mother’ s celebration.

Bev Melton & Ernie Bollerud | Angel Museum Volunteers Of The Year Simply put, the Angel Museum would not function without the dedicated support of its many volunteers. While every single volunteer is appreciated, each year at this time we make a point of recognizing someone who’s contribution has been particularly special. Well this year it happened that two individuals really stood out for us. As we were unwilling to make such a hard choice and they were unwilling to arm wrestle for it we resolved to recognize both of them. It is with our deepest thanks and on behalf of the entire Angel Museum community that we wish to thank Bev Melton and Ernie Bollerud for the generous gift of their time and talents. Bev and Ernie have both been involved in various capacities at the Angel Museum since the very beginning. Bev has served as Board President and docent among other things. Ernie, well he’s just always been there for us when we needed him over all these years. We couldn’t do it without wonderful volunteers like them. Bev and Ernie were both recognized at the yearly Angel Museum Volunteer Recognition Dinner. This community event showcases a “Taste of Beloit” as well as  featuring the wonderful Beloit restaurants and the cuisines they serve.

In addition, attendees can taste great wine and specialty beers primarily from Wisconsin. This year’s event will also feature local artisans on hand exhibiting their works such as; oils, enamels, engravings, batiks, silk-screens, watercolors, and three dimensional cast papers; to name a few.

A live auction will be presented by local auctioneer, Rich Ranft and will include art pieces from each participating artist. Music, Fun and Surprises are sure make it an evening to entertain, enjoy and help the Angel Museum sustain its operations.

Artists are also encouraged to participate.

December 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at The Angel Museum as we video our community to show Oprah we are just a short trip away and well worth the time. The Beloit Community is uniqe in every way, from our small town charm, our get-it-done attitudes, our sites, attractions and hidden gems to a history rich in firsts, we are a community able to rise above adversity and showcase our assets.

Of course the Angel Museum, Beloit’s hidden gem has a direct connection to Oprah as home to her over 600 donated Black Angels. Oprah’s Angels came to the museum in 1998. While Oprah has not yet been to the museum, we hope she does before she leaves the midwest. We want Oprah and her fans who sent her so many angels, to see how well we have taken care of them for her. Since the museum opened, it has seen over 195,000 visitors come to Beloit from every continent in the world and every state in the United States.

Six Hometown Heroes Honored

On February 25, the Angel Museum was host to over 55 community citizens gathered to honor the Hometown Heroes. This annual event began in 2003 and was initiated because the Angel Museum wanted to recognize local African-American leaders and their contributions to not only the Beloit Community, but to the entire country.

Accepting for Marcia Anderson who was on assignment in Africa, was her father. Marcia is a Brigadier General, U.S. Army Reserves Clerk of Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Wisconsin Active in several community organizations.

Accepting for James Caldwellwas his father. Jim Caldwell is Head coach for the Indianapolis Colts Leading his team to Super Bowl XLIV. He was Fifth rookie head coach to reach the Super Bowl and has been assistant coach at five colleges.

Jim Gordon: Teacher and coach for 30 years, Jim was the recipient of the Wisconsin Coaches Basketball Hall of Fame and Teacher of the Year award for 1993.

He was a Dr. of Divinity Degree, Beloit College and leader of numerous organizations.

BIFF 2011 Program Book CoverThe Beloit International Film Festival offers entertainment and educational opportunities. More than that, it offers relief to the underprivileged and unrepresented in our community using films as a vehicle for cultural awareness and the opportunity to become more informed of events, politics, and general social conditions of countries outside of the United States.
